The library was started in 1941. The Library is well-equipped with 30,000 books, catering to different subjects and languages. There is a commendable collection of books in Sanskrit including some rare manuscripts. In addition, there are a number of latest journals and periodicals as well as almost all the leading local dailies.

The Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Library which had its humble begining at Aminabad as early as in 1941 has gradually evolved into its new shape and housed in a spacioused three-storeyed building opposite the magnificient temple of Sri Ramakrishna in the sprawling campus of Sri Ramakrishna Math at Nirala Nagar, Lucknow. The Library which continued in the old Aminabad Ashrama from 1941 to 1967, was shifted to the Mission premises at Vivekananda Puri, behind Vivekananda Polyclinic from where it was again transfered to the Nirala Nagar Math campus in 1987.

Keeping with the times, the Library has undergone a process of computerization. There are plans to implement multimedia facility and beginning of an Information Desk with Internet facility as value additions.
